Y(OUR) STORIES MATTER: A COLLOQUIUM ON INTERSECTIONALITY

This event will be a panel based on intersectionality within the survivor stories of sexual assault, with potential speakers from the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) and Black Lives Matter Boston etc.  We are aiming to educate and raise awareness for sexual assault survivors and help prevent sexual assault on campus. We also plan to have an art component called Stories of a Rape Survivor (SOARS) where we display artwork and confidential stories  from rape survivors thats could potentially be in the hallway area near the venue.

Throughout the year the department also co-sponsors various lectures and programs with other university entities, and contributes to important university events. In 2016, for example, Sociology Associate Professor Brian Gareau was a co-lead faculty member of BC’s ILA-sponsored four-day conference exploring the implications of Pope Francis’s encyclical on the environment and climate change.
