Boston College made a strong showing at the 8th Annual Japanese Language Contest sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan in Boston, with four students among the top three entrants in their categories.
Jooghwa Byeon '19 took first place in the intermediate speech division; seniors Fengshu Yang and Nero Cao took second place in, respectively, the advanced speech and elementary essay divisions, while Hang Yin '20 took third in the advanced speech.
The competition includes essays and speeches by high school and college students from across New England. The BC winners are students in the East Asian Languages and Civilizations program of the Slavic and Eastern Languages Department, under the guidance of faculty Ritsuko Sullivan, Jun Ono Cheung, and Asako Miyaki Ashley.
The final round of the competition took place in April.
